We built an MCP for NinjaTrader, and handed an AI the keys
NinjaTrader is a serious bit of desktop trading software, and like most serious desktop software it is a walled garden. Your charts, your market data, your trades, all of it lives inside the application, and getting anything out, or getting an AI in, is not something it wants to help you with.
So we built an MCP for NinjaTrader. It is a bridge that gives Claude real, hands-on control of the platform, around forty tools in all. Not a chatbot stapled to the side. An AI that can actually read the market, watch the charts, draw on them, set alerts, drive replay and keep an automated trading journal. It started as a tool for ourselves, and it is the clearest thing we have built to show what "automation built in" means at the deep end.
What the AI can do
Through the bridge, Claude can reach into NinjaTrader and:
- Read the market. Instruments, price bars, volume profile, pulled on demand.
- See the charts. Capture a live screenshot of any chart, straight from the platform.
- Draw on the charts. Add rectangles, lines and notes programmatically, so the AI can mark up a setup itself.
- Watch prices. A built-in alert engine that fires when a level is hit, with a live stream the AI can subscribe to.
- Drive market replay. Load replay data, jump to a moment and play it back, to review a session or rehearse a setup without touching the platform by hand.
- Keep an automated trade journal. Every trade logged the moment it closes, with entry and exit screenshots, the R-multiple and P&L worked out, and the session tagged live, sim or replay.
Why it is the interesting one
Most "AI for your business" is a chat widget. This is the opposite end of the same idea: the slow, unglamorous work of getting an AI to operate a closed piece of software, properly, with real hands rather than canned answers.
We are not going to publish how it is built. That part stays with us. The point is the capability. If a system holds useful information, we can usually get an AI in there to read it, watch it and act on it, even when everything was designed to stay locked inside.
Can you build me one?
Traders ask us this, so: yes. We can build an AI control layer for your NinjaTrader setup, automated trading tools, the journal, the lot, or open up almost any other system you rely on. If you have software full of useful data and no good way to get an AI near it, that is the conversation to have.
